Brendon and Ryan broke up shortly after the apartment incident and there was a month or so in between that and the day that him and Jon see each other again. He'd only been out with Spencer a few times before that particular portion of the fic. (Spencer was insanely high maintenance in my head for this piece, lol, even though his part was only like 2 seconds long).
