The Really, Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour [Kansas City, MO - 02/03/08]

Shailaja's recap, which includes, but is not limited to:
&hearts many unnecessary references to bathrooms
&hearts the phrase no lie written entirely too much
&hearts the realization that i'm a pervy old woman *sigh*

...oh yeah, KICK ASS MUSIC (but shitty pics, yo).

What:
The Really, Really Ridiculously Good Looking Tour
w/ Cobra Starship, Metro Station, We the Kings & The Cab

When:
Sunday, February 3, 2008

Where:
The Beaumont Club - Kansas City, MO

humble beginnings
to tell you the truth, i hadn't planned on going to this particular leg of the tour. i already had tickets for me, [livejournal.com profile] universeunfold, and [livejournal.com profile] fallingfortruth for the February 21st show in dallas, tx.

but i found out that [livejournal.com profile] saline_joy and [livejournal.com profile] seanarenay were both going to be there, i decided what the hell, why not? also, i did not get to spend nearly enough time with [livejournal.com profile] saline_joy last year at the hct, so bonus!

plans were made. plans were solidified.

plans called for me to get my lazy ass out of bed at 5am on a sunday morning to drive up to kansas. ugh. note: i probably wouldn't have had to get up that early, but dammit, i wanted to straighten my hair and jesus, that takes forever. so, no fault but my own.

aaaaanyway. on the road by 6am with my crappy coffee and crappier breakfast sandwich (actually, i love traveling, so whatever). get to [livejournal.com profile] saline_joy's place around 1015, or so? we hang for a bit, i meet the sister (right?) who's pretty much just as awesome as J (which, btw, pretty friggin' awesome)...we head into kansas city to go pick up seana who's staying with some nice folks who let us chill on their couch, annoy their dogs and watch their big screen tv for a bit before we all climb up in the vehicle and away to the venue.

in which mother nature apparently doesn't like to dance
we actually park the car around 1215/1220 and there are already people standing outside. okay, sitting for the most part. with their sleeping bags and blankets and i really, really don't want to know how long some of them were there.

we had planned to go eat some pizza at a place just down the street, but we decided to go ahead and get in line. because we are apparently gluttons for punishment, you know why?

because motherfuck, it was cold. and drizzly. and windy. and did i mention COLD?

i seriously had to pee, like, 5 times (i have to pee when i'm cold, okay? stfu.) we did, however, grab some pizza and several chai teas and did i mention i peed like a zillion times? right. anyway, we're hanging (like you do) with a bunch of other crazy retards, listening to some tunes and chillin. i mean this in the most literal sense of the word, watching the buses pull out, stop blocking our wind, making us curse and then pulling back in. shit starts getting unloaded (and i pee, like, 3 times, jesus).

we're standing there, and i'm babbling about something or making stupid faces ( i don't know, they were laughing at me, i was happy) when i kind of look to my left and then look back to the girls and then go OH, HAI ALEX SUAREZ, HOW HOT ARE YOU? so yeah, alex came out and mugged with the teenies, signed shit for about 30 minutes and was generally just hot like burning. ugh. this can be seen here:
alex suarez,rrrgl tour 02/03/08,cobra starship

we go back to freezing our asses off. a couple of hours pass. mason from metro station ambles by a few times, pretty much ignoring everyone. we see bad hair and assume that the majority of we the kings has wandered past a few times. ALSO, HAI MIKEYWAY-ESQUE DUDE. YOU ARE CUTE. wait, or was he the one from the BILL BECKETT SCHOOL OF HAIR? we couldn't really keep our describe-the-newbie-band-guy-by-way-of-our-favorite-band-members straight anyway. needless to say, bassist for WtK? totally ryan-ross-esque in stature, completely old-school billvy locks.

anyway.

alex comes back. from the complete opposite direction of his bus. apparently he'd gone shopping, idk. i finally got him to sign my cd liner while trying not to stammer like an idiot. because shit. THAT BOY IS HOT. ugh, burns my eyes hot. seana presented him with 2 of her birthday cupcakes.

OH YEAH, IT WAS [livejournal.com profile] seanarenay's BIRTHDAY ON SUNDAY. SHE GOT CUPCAKES (which we thoroughly enjoyed in line. in the cold) AND MULTIPLE HUGS FROM HOT-ASS SUAREZ. not too shabby. :D

time to shake it, shake it...okay, not QUITE time
okay, so they finally, finally let us in the damn venue about 6 or so. mad rush, omg, it could have gotten ugly. but dude that came out to pre-mark all the teenies was cute. and funny. and had a pretty kick-ass coat.

i pee (again) and then we head over to the left side of the stage and chill because it's still supposed to be about another 45 minutes before anyone goes on. blah, blah, blah. then i look over to my left and i see a bushy-haired dude dragging an equipment box to the side stage.

OH HAI, IAN FROM THE CAB. WTF ARE YOU GUYS DOING OUT OF BED, JESUS.

so, i point it out to S and J - hey, i swear i just saw ian and then i pointed up to the stage and lo, it was. we were all pretty excited, i will not lie.

so, ian's hauling ass trying to get their shit set up. marshall's on the other side of the stage, setting up his keyboard and singer's limping around, dragging a stool up to the microphone. cash came on stage and omg, i've never seen him move so little. babies were soooo sore. johnson came on to test out the WtK drum kit and looked like he could barely move. omg, poor babies. we cheered. ian just grinned like mad at us. i swear, that boy has the sweetest smile ever. srsly.

(at this point, this one girl next to me starting gushing about the one guy, in the grey hoodie, the bass player. it was funny, she was totally enamoured in the space of, like, the 5 seconds he'd been on stage and facing the crowd. i was so proud. *cough* it is also at this point while they are setting up, that i hear some sort-of-but-not-really derogatory remark about why they hadn't already sound-checked and i had to turn around and tell her it was probably because they'd rolled their van friday morning and weren't really even supposed to be here. shock followed, i felt better having kind-of-but-not-really putting her in her place. MY BABIES WERE HERE AND I WAS SO HAPPY, OKAY?)

they apparently decided that morning that fuck it, they were just going to head up and do the show. but it turned out that something was wrong with the keyboard (what? you take a look at the pictures from the accident and tell how that possible could have happened. ugh, boys, just. i'm fucking glad you're all okay *sigh*) so singer and ian did a little acoustic set.

man, oh man. singer looked like all he really wanted to do was to sleep for about 3 days. but they thanked all the fans a zillion times for all the emails and messages they'd received. so sweet, those boys. we got to hear i'll run and take my hand, as well as edwin mccain's i'll be. i cannot lie, that song used to be, like, my favorite thing ever. i also felt really, really old, but that's neither here nor there. again.

here, have a really crappy phone picture of ian and singer:
ian,alex deleon,singer,the cab,rrrgl tour 02/03/08

in which i am thoroughly surprised by We the Kings

so.

i'd dl-ed the album from WtK, prepping myself since i hate going to concerts and now knowing the songs (or at least being familiar with them). i admit i liked skyway avenue and even had check yes, juliet up on my MS for a while, but all in all, i wasn't chomping at the bit for these guys.

and then they. just. exploded. they started out with stay young and it was just, like, IN YOUR FACE. i'll not lie, they had me from the first burst of guitars and drums. also in the fact that travis (lead singer) had a surprise for us under his shirt. consisting of an n*sync shirt. it was pretty funny. i have a picture of this shirt, but as i pretty much look absolutely horrific in that picture, you will not be seeing it. sorry (not really).

they rocked it. and i LOVED it. also, they played all again for you for the first time and as it is actually my favorite song on the album, i was stoked. and once again, it KICKED ASS (are you sensing a theme?) anyway. they played most of the album, skyway avenue was nuts and a totally blast in the crowd. i always forget how much i love that feeling until i'm there again. *happy sigh*

travis did this is our town as an acoustic solo except the part where the rest of his band came back for the end and BLASTED the shit out of the last chorus. ugh, boys, just. i'm pretty sure they closed with check yes, juliet and then we kind of stood there in a happy daze for a while.

last minute insert: OH YEAH. IAN CAME OUT TO JAM ON JULIET. IT WAS MADE OF AWESOME. I'M PRETTY SURE I'M IN LOVE WITH ALL THE CAB BABIES.

until the teenies started their stupid pit shit.

actually, K and J had already opted out of the pit by this time so, it was pretty much me and J. i was going to rough it out, seriously i was, i can usually take about anything in the pit. but. dammit, i hate teenies. and the venue was small enough that i was like, fuck it, i can see just as well from the back. so me and J made our way out...and over to the bar where S was partying like it was her birthday or something :P i'm pretty sure this is where i got my cash hug (i know i bought merch as this point to because i looked like a total dork with 2 shirts hanging out of my belt loops) and basically hung around with him until metro station hit the stage.

underage sex has never been so catchy....yeah >_>
i've said this a million times already, but dammit, metro station is FUCKIN' CATCHY SHIT. also, even though i do not find trace cyrus that attractive as a whole? i would still lick his tattoos. (we've already discussed my special corner in hell, right? okay.)

actually, these guys were hella fun to watch - what with all the hair flinging and arm waving and general mikeyway-ness of the keyboard player. and the dancing. because seriously, you are DEAD if this shit doesn't make you want to shake your ass. ugh. i also really like the way mason and trace play the lyrics off each other, even if trace speak-sings. mason's voice was good, i thought. for what they sing/do, they do it well. sometimes this type of music doesn't translate well live, but i thought they did an awesome job.

they played the longest set so far of the evening, pretty much their entire album. they also threw in a new(?) song in which the actual word fuck was used. therein sealing the fact that all their songs really are about underage sex.

awesome. :D

gabe saporta should always touch himself and say dirty things...no, really
oh, cobra starship. the music of my soul.

okay, maybe not really, but seriously. it's close.

now, i've heard many a time that gabe was kind of a dick when he was with midtown, but whatever happened in the desert with the cobra? i see none of that. the man signed shit in the middle of the concert. on stage. he also apologized for stepping on all the fingers of all the people at the front of the stage. &hearts, gabe, just for you.

this man has a blast on stage. and it is so awesome to watch. at this point, we were at the back of the crowd (which means nothing because the venue was not big at all) and you could see how much fun he has on stage. which is why i am so on the barrier for the dallas show because this time i'm seeing that shit up close and personal.

he made vickyt smile, a lot.

they played everything off of VLC except angie and pleasure ryland, i think. i know they played one day, robots will cry because that's my favorite song on the album.

other memorable moments (that i actually remember):

* gabe touching himself on i can be a nasty guy
* gabe singing gonna make you wet (mostly this is amazing for the way J turned around to give me that 'oh my god, did he just say that?' look. it was classic, no lie)
* i'm pretty sure gabe flipped vickyt off but i don't remember what preceded it. she just laughed.
* um, vickyt putting her hair up? should not be that hot. omg.
* intro-ing bring it with a verse of hollaback boy, in which the crowd goes even more nuts
* oh yeah, GABE WORE THE PURPLE HOODY. my life, complete.

so, yeah. loads of awesomeness. the little girl that did travie's rap in bring it did a good job, as i can't even image getting two words out on-stage, much less a rap.

as far as cobra starship goes, i have to agree with [livejournal.com profile] foxxcub (whom it seems, i was probably standing behind at some point, lol):

AND, OMG, I could stay in the pit for "Guilty Pleasure" FOREVER. SO MUCH FUN AHHHHHH. GABE CAME TO MAKE ME DANCE AND I DID AND IT WAS GLORIOUS. \o/ \o/ \o/

Did you notice that Nate bangs the shit out of his kit much like Spencer? *dies*

a short set, yes, but totally fuckin' worth THE ENTIRE DAY.

smile for the papparrazzi...okay, for the fangirls then
ahahaha, after cobra got off (*snort*), me, J & K went to back to the bar and found S shooting the shit with mason. mason was. ahahaha. um, dorkily cute? he liked J & K's knit caps and wanted to know what we really thought of their set. he's totally squishable, i love it. (*hangs up decorations in hell*)

i went to the bathroom (this is really just a tale of my loo adventures) and came back to realize that cobra had had come out to sign stuff. gabe and nate were hanging by the stage and i slid into the crowd around nate.

nate is, like, tiny. i'm taller than him at around 5'5". i seriously kind of wanted to squish him to my chest, but i decided against that. >_> this tour is apparently very well named, as nate is really, really good looking. and i usually don't like nose rings on guys, but hot damn. nate and his nose ring are welcome anytime.

so after nate, i kind of slid around the crowd surrounding gabe:
gabe saporta,rrrgl tour 02/03/08,cobra starship

and worked my way to him fairly quickly. so i get him to sign my cd liner and get to take a really crappy phone pic (again. omg, i'm getting a damn camera one of these days) which can be seen here:
gabe saporta,rrrgl tour 02/03/08,cobra starship

i was really happy. this time i actually managed to speak to gabe as opposed to hct where i think i may have smiled stupidly at him and held my shirt out to sign. hey, i never said i was suave.

alex had already signed my cd liner so i wandered over to ryland, staring at alex's skinny fucking jeans and ridiculous shoes until it was my turn. apparently my ability to form coherent sentences did not extend to ryland as we had a partial miscommunication about what i wanted him to do until i just said something like just sign it? followed by and maybe a hug?. to wit, i got both. perhaps i should have played the no habla english? to avoid looking like a total idiot. *sigh* whatever. baby steps, yo.

i missed vickyt, who apparently came out later when most of the crowd was gone. i hope she's feeling better by dallas. i really, really, really want to meet her. and maybe ogle her legs. or breasts. or hell, both. (i'm a creeeeeeep, ugh)

the (after)life of the party. the after life is really damn foggy, just so you know.
we left the venue at about 1130, i think? we headed out with cash, WHO WALKED US OUT THE DOOR (srsly, i'm crushing hard, yo. ugh)

omg, i hate fog. it was stupid thick, seriously. i haven't seen fog like that in ages, ugh. we stopped off for gas and a quick bite (and the bathroom) before dropping S off, but the stupid gas station was closed so i had to waddle across the road to the other one. also to buy a bag of ranch chips and a chocolate donut (idek, okay? it was like concert munchies. or something.)

it was hugs all around when we dropped S off - i'm so glad that she had a good time :D if you get a chance and haven't already read it, go check out her concert recap, as well as [livejournal.com profile] saline_joy's initial reaction type stuff.

so we get back to J's place and i'm, as usual, still too concert high to want to sleep. so i bust out the computer because LJ-addiction is real, and i had to check it. i also showed J & K pics that marshall had posted from the accident. did i say how glad i am that they are all okay? because holy fuck, yeah.

anyway, i finally get to sleep and morning comes way too early. i head out around 915/930? AND GUESS WHAT? IT WAS LIKE CLEAR, SUNNY AND ABOUT 60 FUCKING DEGREES. cripes.

so i got home okay, and instead of taking a shower and a nap, i (wait for it) played on the computer instead. although i did take that shower. :D

so that's it boys and girls. my first concert of the year. WE ARE OFF TO A GOOD CONCERT START, 2008, PLZ BE TO KEEPING THAT UP.

ticket: $20
travel/food: $50
merch: $42
cobra starship & co: priceless (and hot)

let me know what you thought!

edit: hey! go check out [livejournal.com profile] slashxmistress' pics from this concert! and her video of the cab babies!!
